Quito (Agenzia Fides) - At present there are 500,000 children and adolescents in the age group between 0 and 17 years, living without any family ties completely left on their own in Ecuador. This is what emerges from a study of the NGO S.O.S. Children's Village, sent to Fides. Poverty is not the only cause of abandonment, there is also domestic violence, the consumption and abuse of drugs and alcohol or mistreatment. The study was carried out between 2014 and 2015 throughout the Country, involving more than 1500 people. The research states that abandonment is not only physical, but also psychological and social, where the family not only marginalizes the child but does not respect its rights which include adequate food, attention to health and education.
