Managua (Agenzia Fides) - The Bishops of the Episcopal Conference of Nicaragua (CEN) have prepared a pastoral letter to be published next week. The letter sent to Fides from a local source highlights what was reported by His Exc. Mgr. Carlos Herrera Gutierrez, OFM, Bishop of Jinotega: the document "will deal with the institutional situation of the country and the electoral process. We have spoken among ourselves to emphasize the respect of the people and update the letter delivered to President Ortega in 2014". Mgr. Herrera added: "We also wrote how to avoid violence and how to act in the spirit of the law and within the law".
On 21 May 2014, CEN had delivered a letter to President Ortega, at the head office of the Nunciature, which contained reflections and suggestions on the problems of Nicaragua (see Fides 22/05/2014). According to several local press reports, the President completely ignored what the Bishops wrote at the time.
Family situation, social issues, human rights situation, problems of the Caribbean coast, evangelization, some Government Policies and the crisis of national institutions, were some of the main themes raised by the CEN in the letter entitled "In search of new horizons for a better Nicaragua" (see Fides 20/05/2014; 22/05/2014; 04/06/2014).
