Caracas (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino, Archbishop of Caracas, in an interview with the local television "Televen", sent to Fides, spoke of the last parliamentary elections held on December 6.
As a citizen and Bishop of the Church, I noticed that "the country has sought a change of course, people refuse to continue to queue to get a pound of flour, a dozen eggs at regulated prices".
He also noticed that the government should listen to the voice of the people, to all citizens who live in the country. Cardinal Urosa stressed that opposition leaders must act with great humility and should solve the problems that Venezuelans face.
"I think there should be an amnesty law, there are many people who are detained without serious allegations. My heart goes out to those detained in these cells in Sebin or in the prison of La Tumba, some simply for having writen a tweet, these must be released!" the Cardinal said, referring to the young people arrested just for expressing their disagreement or their criticism with tweets with regards to the government . "As Bishop I invite everyone to be calm, but the President has an obligation to promote peace and not to express violent speeches" said the Archbishop of Caracas. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 14/12/2015)
