Dhaka (Agenzia Fides) - "He who preaches Christianity must leave the country or die": is the threatening warning which ten leaders of Protestant Christian communities in the North of Bangladesh received. As revealed by local sources, the threats were sent in the form of anonymous letters. The Pastors, all residents in the province of Rangpur, turned to the police who have started investigations and tightened security in the region, especially on Christian places of worship.
Recently the Italian Catholic missionary Piero Parolari was seriously injured but is now out of danger. Given the serious situation, many priests and Pastors in northern Bangladesh have been given body guards. According to estimates there are about 3,000 Christian churches in Bangladesh in a country where 90% of the population is Muslim. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 04/12/2015)
