Saturday, 28 May 2005

Seoul (Fides Service) - The imminent circulation of a new Korean translation of the Bible in early June, a campaign on bio-ethical matters on the occasion of the Day for Life (29 May) and the opening of the diocesan stage of the process of beatification of Father Thomas Choi Yang-eop of were among the topics discussed by a recent meeting of the Standing Council of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Korea.
The meeting discussed preparations for the Day for Life celebrated by the Church in Korea on 29 May and a message from the Bishops’ Committee for Bio-Ethics to be read in all parishes calling for respect for life from the moment of conception and for the embryo as a human person condemnation of all human cloning; and calling for scientific research to respect ethic principles. In Korea the Church is ever more deeply committed to protect life in view of reports of scientific experiments by Korean medics.
Good news for all Christians in Korea is the imminent publication of a new edition of the Bible in Korean. The purpose of the new translation of the Bible using more modern and accessible language while remaining true to the original Scripture is to further deeper understanding of the Word of God. The new translation is the fruit of 15 years of work by a team of expert theologians and translators. Also imminent the publication of a new Guide for Catechists which will be distributed in parishes and religious institutions.
