ASIA/HOLY LAND - New radio, Voice of Peace, unites Israelis and Palestinians

Tuesday, 12 April 2005

Jerusalem (Fides Service) - Peace takes to the air in the Holy Land. Two days ago a new radio station, the Voice of Peace, started broadcasting in Hebrew, Arabic and English with the objective of spreading a message of peace and reconciliation to unite people on both sides of the wall which cuts the Holy Land in two. The radio is run by Israelis and Palestinians united in the name of peace. The programmes, cultural, musical and news, aim to promote awareness of the common values of the two peoples and bring them closer together, said the director Mrs. Mihal.
The radio has its studios in Quds, presently in Israeli territory, and is supported by a number of human rights groups, cultural centres and Jewish and Arab associations. Christians in the Holy Land welcome the initiative which they see as a new channel for dialogue to promote peace and reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians, the young people in particularly, as taught by John Paul II who called repeatedly for peace in the Holy Land.
