Gambella (Fides Service)- “I want very much to go to Catholics in villages around Gambella to commemorate the Holy Father with them, but it is simply impossible in the present state of insecurity” Bishop Angelo Moreschi, Prefect Apostolic of Gambella, which lies about 800 km west of Addis Ababa the capital of Ethiopia.
“I have just returned from a week in Addis Ababa and people told me that another 3 people were killed by guerrilla troops who shoot indiscriminately at people on provincial roads. The week before 3 people were killed” Bishop Moreschi told Fides.
“This is why we have to restrict commemoration services to Gambella. Today I celebrated a Requiem Mass and on Friday 8 April, the day of the Pope’s funeral, we have invited all the Catholics in the city to come for special prayers for the Holy Father” Bishop Moreschi concluded.
