AFRICA/KENYA - Greater awareness is needed for the treatment of cholera and diarrhea

Saturday, 30 May 2015

Nairobi (Agenzia Fides) - Many children in Kenya die due to acute diarrhea and often, unfortunately, many parents do not know that a rehydration treatment would be enough to save the lives of their children. The main treatment for this type of fatal disease is in fact the use of intravenous drip that allows a more rapid diffusion of liquids in the body. However, once parents bring their children to hospital, they refuse to give them intravenous drip treatment. The Country continues to make strides in the treatment of HIV/AIDS, another serious health problem among children. Recent studies of the Kenya AIDS Indicator Survey show that the number of HIV-infected children, between 18 months and 14 years of age, fell from 184,000 in 2007 to 104,000 in 2012.
