AMERICA/MEXICO - The denunciation of the Bishop of Piedras Negras: Too many missing persons of whom we know nothing

Tuesday, 31 March 2015

Piedras Negras (Agenzia Fides) - Relatives of missing persons are angry and feel helpless seeing that there are no results from the investigation to find out where their loved ones are, but the worst thing is that people continue to disappear denounced the Bishop Piedras Negras (Coahuila, Mexico), His Exc. Msgr. Alonso Gerardo Garza Treviño.
In the note sent to Fides from a local source we read the words of the Bishop during a meeting with the faithful on the occasion of Holy Week: "It is terrible, because there continues to be cases of people who disappear. There are cases where you do not have the slightest idea where they are or who kidnapped them".
Mgr. Garza Treviño emphasized that few families have received the request for a ransom, and the majority have not had any news of their lost relative.
According to data collected by Fides, many of the men and young people kidnapped are used by groups of drug traffickers to transport drugs or other goods to the border. Lately authorities in Cohauila and Texas met in Maverick to exchange information regarding these groups of people who have disappeared and detainees. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 31/03/2015)
