AFRICA/NAMIBIA - "Year of Reconciliation" from July 29, 2015

Monday, 16 March 2015

Windhoek (Agenzia Fides) - "Justice and Peace" Commissions must be at the center of reconciliation, peace and development pastoral programs promoted by various Episcopal Conferences of Africa. This was stated by His Exc. Mgr. Gabriel Justice Yaw Anokye, Archbishop of Kumasi (Ghana) and Vice President of SECAM (Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar) in his opening speech of the Congress "Justice and Peace at the service of Reconciliation and Integral Development of Africa", which was held in the capital of Namibia, Windhoek, from March 12 to 15.
According to a statement sent to Agenzia Fides, Mgr. Anokye, who is also President of the Justice, Peace and Development Commission of SECAM, stressed that "we must not be afraid to name and shame the devil or to correct the ills of society if we want to be a truly reconciled African continent". The Archbishop then recalled the many young people involved in conflicts in Africa and appealed to political leaders in Africa to rather mobilise the youth to be agents for peace and integral development of the continent of Africa.
Mgr. Anokye finally announced that SECAM has declared the Year of Reconciliation in Africa, from July 29, 2015 to July 29, 2016. (LM) (Agenzia Fides 16/03/2015)
