AFRICA/KENYA - The Church make uncultivated land available to produce food

Thursday, 5 March 2015

Nairobi (Agenzia Fides) - The uncultivated lands of dioceses, religious congregations and seminaries of Kenya will be used to produce food. This is what Fr. Celestino Bundi, Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of Kenya said during the meeting of the Directors of the African PMS, which was held in late February at the Pastoral Center Vincenzo Pallotti in Kigali, Rwanda.
According CISA agency in Nairobi, Fr. Bundi pointed out that in this way the Church in Kenya intends to respond to the appeal launched by Pope Francis in his speech to the participants at the 38th session of FAO, to find new ways of helping the poor and the hungry.
"It is a well-known fact - said Pope Francis - that current levels of production are sufficient, yet millions of people are still suffering and dying of starvation. This, dear friends is truly scandalous. A way has to be found to enable everyone to benefit from the fruits of the earth, and not simply to close the gap between the affluent and those who must be satisfied with the crumbs falling from the table, but above all to satisfy the demands of justice, fairness and respect for every human being".
The Church in Kenya, said the Director of the local PMS, aims to become self-sufficient, reduce malnutrition and create a reciprocal exchange between the "haves" and "have-nots". (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 05/03/2015)
