AFRICA/EGYPT - Copt Church forms committee to evacuate Egyptians from Libya

Cairo (Agenzia Fides) - A “crisis unit” has been instituted at the request of the Synod of the Copt Orthodox Church to collect data and information regarding all Egyptians still present in Libya, in order to facilitate rapid evacuation and repatriation. The Crisis Committee – according to sources consulted by Fides– headed by Anba Raphael, secretary of the Holy Synod, is collecting information from families of Copts who emigrated for reasons of work to Libya in view of arranging repatriation in coordination with Egyptian military and civil institutions. Families have been urged to provide the Crisis Committee before 28 February with the information necessary to make contact with emigrant family members in Libya and plan repatriation from the different regions of Libya , starting with those most affected by the fighting.
