AFRICA/KENYA - Schoolchildren abused of their rights

Tuesday, 20 January 2015

Nairobi (Agenzia Fides) - Huge uproar has followed the tear-gassing of schoolchildren as they protested the grabbing of their playground in Nairobi yesterday and the incident has sparked the reaction of many Kenyans. A group of students protested against a fence located on the land adjacent to the school. As reported by local sources, the police had attack dogs with them and lobbed teargas canisters at the children. Agents reported to have arrived on site to restore order, since the students carried banners that read: "the appropriation of land is violence against children". (AP) (Agenzia Fides 20/01/2015)
