Thursday, 15 January 2015

Tegucigalpa (Agenzia Fides) - Near the traffic lights of the Las Colinas colony in Tegucigalpa children continuously beg. The many young children between 2 and 15 years of age are forced by adults to this kind of life and spend days begging under the hot sun. A high percentage of single parents are mothers, who do not work and exploit their young as a source of income.
The phenomenon of child beggars, over 3000, can be found in cities like Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba. The Directorate for Childhood, Adolescence and Family (Dinaf) estimates that there are 232 032 orphans, who are consequently forced to live on the street. According to the organization, adults give children for rent, for 100 lempiras, to unscrupulous people. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 15/01/2015)
