Friday, 9 January 2015

Resistencia (Agenzia Fides) - In the Argentine province of Chaco, tuberculosis and Chagas disease are out of control. According to data from the Institute of Social, Economic Research and Citizen Policy (ISEPCi), about 50% of the inhabitants are poor. The health and social situation in the region is severely precarious. 49.6% of the inhabitants of El Gran Resistencia lives below the poverty line and 13.6% do not have sufficient income to feed themselves adequately. The coordinator of the center Nelson Mandela highlighted the fact that the health system in Chaco functions badly because of political patronage, abuse, and also because of discrimination against indigenous communities.
