AMERICA/BOLIVIA - "Open your eyes and ears": warning of the church for the election campaign

Monday, 5 January 2015

Santa Cruz (Agenzia Fides) - On Sunday, January 4 Mgr. Braulio Sáez Garcia, O.C.D., Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia) in his homily told the Bolivian community not to be brainwahed by propaganda manipulation related to the election campaign: "We are believers", said the Bishop in his homily, "and we cannot live irresponsibly, nor naively absorb everything that is proposed by society. We cannot believe everything we hear about the election campaign, which has just started. One has to open eyes and ears and correctly interpret what is heard and seen on television and radio. Do not be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters", said Mgr. Saez, in a note sent to Agenzia Fides.
Mgr. Sáez Garcia explained that the wisdom that comes from God is manifested through the teaching of the Church and guides men with moral and ethical values that should be put in practice in real life.
Bolivia prepares itself for the regional elections, scheduled in March 2015. The political scenario looks uncertain, partly because the opposition forces are not grouped in a single front. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 05/01/2015)
