AFRICA/RWANDA - A fish farm to support the orphanage in Muhura

Monday, 22 December 2014

Muhura (Agenzia Fides) - The St. Joseph Orphanage in Muhura, renamed "Casa San Giuseppe", was built in the early 90s by an elderly Italian midwife. Today the center is run by the Angelic Sisters of St. Paul and since 2009 the Movement Fighting World Hunger has been working with them. The NGO is responsible for the support of children and young people who are welcomed in the orphanage. The team consists of animators and entirely Rwandan staff, coordinated by Sister Odile.
In order to make the Center more self-sufficient, the NGO proposes a new project for the construction of a fish farm. The fish-farming plant will be built in an area inside the area of the village high schools in Muko. Objective of the project is mainly to improve the food quality of the 100 children housed in Casa San Giuseppe. The excess fish will in fact be sold at the local market in Muhura.
