AFRICA/SUDAN - Twenty new radio stations in Darfur and South Kordofan

Wednesday, 17 December 2014

Khartoum (Agenzia Fides) - In January, Sudan plans to launch ten shortwave radio stations in Darfur, and ten in South Kordofan. The new stations will present programs in local dialects, in response to the transmissions of Radio Dabanga, in an attempt to reduce its impact on the populations of those regions, especially in Darfur. As for South Kordofan, the radio stations radios will aim to reach the Nuba people living in the rebel-controlled areas. Sudanese MPs have criticized the performance of the official media describing it weak and failing in the delivery of information and have asked to disrupt or completely close the radio station.
