AMERICA/ARGENTINA - Church and government meet again

Wednesday, 17 December 2014

Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - The presidency of the Episcopal Conference of Argentina (CEA) will be received on Monday, December 22 by the President of Argentina, Cristina Kirchner. The meeting takes place after some friction between the government and the Bishops, due to the insistence, on behalf of the Church, regarding the spread of drug trafficking and violence, job insecurity and rampant corruption, which has caused strong reactions of the ruling party (see Fides 11/12/2014).
The note sent to Fides also informs that the Standing Committee of CEA has gathered these days (December 16 and 17) to decide on the methodology to follow on the preparation for the Ordinary Synod on the Family, which will be held in October 2015. This will also be the opportunity to prepare a message to the people of God at Christmas. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 17/12/2014)
