ASIA/INDONESIA - Indonesian Bishops and priests inspired by the Evangelii Gaudium in prayer and action

Thursday, 11 December 2014

Semarang (Agenzia Fides) - Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation "Evangelii Gaudium" is a valuable document in Indonesia for meditation, prayer and for the pastoral service of Bishops and priests in Indonesia and continues to inspire their actions: this is what Johannes Pujasumarta, Archbishop of Sembarang and Secretary General of the Episcopal Conference said. The document was at the centre of the last assembly of Indonesian bishops and is a useful guide for the pastoral service today, said the Secretary.
As reported to Fides by the Catholic Information Service "Penakatolik", Evangelii Gaudium was much appreciated by the Bishops, who continue to propose and follow it in their dioceses. All the Bishops and priests, secretaries of committees and priests involved in various ways in the bishops' conference, "there is a desire to proclaim the joy of the Gospel among the multicultural people of Indonesia". This is why Archbishop Pujasumarta took advantage of the contribution of two priests, Fr. Siswantoko and Fr. Siprianus Hormat - respectively Secretaries of the Episcopal Commissions for migrants and for the formation in seminars - to draw up a small "Guide", useful to their religious and pastoral clergy, based on the Evangelii Gaudium.
