ASIA/IRAQ - A "Family Card" to rationalize aid to refugees

Monday, 6 October 2014

Erbil (Agenzia Fides) - The Committees of assistance for refugees linked to the Chaldean diocese of Erbil are preparing the distribution of a "Family Card" reserved for the families of refugees who have found shelter in the area of Iraqi Kurdistan, so as to rationalize and give more effective aid and support services for the populations of Mosul and the Nineveh Plain forced to leave their homes due to the advance of the jihadists of the Islamic State (IS).
Thanks to free work of young volunteers, the data of the refugee families are inserted in a database that allows to always have the telephone numbers of refugees, monitor and update their distribution in the different areas, calculate the distribution of aid according to different needs, taking into account the mobility that inevitably marks the condition of those who are forced to live homeless. According to reports from the Arab ankawa.com site, the widespread distribution of the Family Card is expected to begin in coming days. Meanwhile, all the charitable organizations involved in the aid to refugees are thinking of how to deal with new threats linked to the arrival of the cold season. (GV) (Agenzia Fides 06/10/2014)
