AMERICA/COSTA RICA - The chicungunya virus continues to alarm Latin American Countries

San José (Agenzia Fides) - After Haiti and El Salvador (see Fides Agency 03/07/2014 and 08/07/2014), the chikungunya virus arrives in Costa Rica. The Ministry of Health of Costa Rica has just released news regarding six cases of chikungunya reported in the Country, but all imported. The six confirmed patients infected, Costa Ricans had visited the Dominican Republic, and developed the disease in Costa Rica without any additional medical complications or need for hospitalization. According to officials of the Ministry, the virus is still circulating in the Country and it is necessary to carry out preventive campaigns. The virus has reached the French area of San Martín and has since then it has spread to many Countries of the Caribbean. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 23/07/2014)
