Guatemala City (Agenzia Fides) - The Episcopal Conference of Guatemala (CEG) has urged the three branches of government, entrepreneurs, landowners, workers and the entire civil society in general to work for peace and social justice, as part of the obligations required by the rule of law. The Bishops’ message, at the conclusion of their annual plenary Assembly held in the last days of January, is published under the title "Let's build the country in peace and brotherhood".
According to information sent to Fides Agency, the Bishop of the Diocese of Huehuetenango, His Exc. Mgr. Alvaro Ramazzini, head of the communications office of the CEG, on presenting the document stated, inter alia: "We ask MPs not to fall into the temptation of money that buys consciences. A duty of social justice is to propose laws for the common good. To the Executive we ask for a new development model, because the existing model continues to generate exclusion and poverty". Mgr. Ramazzini also stated that the CEG urges civil society not to resort to violence and not to infringe upon the interests of other citizens. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 03/02/2014 )
