Saturday, 5 October 2013

Cologne (Agenzia Fides) - The solemn Eucharistic celebration which will take place in the Cathedral of Cologne on Sunday, October 6, marks the opening of the "Missio" Campaign and the missionary month, which this year is dedicated in particular to Egypt. The Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, Cardinal Leonardo Sandri will preside the mass. He will be joined by the Coptic Catholic Patriarch, His Beatitude Ibrahim Sidrak, and the Archbishop of Cologne, Cardinal Joachim Meisner.
As reported in a statement of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches sent to Fides Agency, Cardinal Sandri is in Germany to meet those in charge and collaborators of certain Agencies: R.O.A.C.O. (Reunion of Aid Oriental Churches), in particular the same Archdiocese of Cologne, Aachen Missio, Misereor, Kindermissionwerk, Deutscher Verein vom Heiligen Land, Pax -Hilfe, in sign of gratitude for the solidarity shown towards the Eastern Churches, especially in those places such as Iraq, Egypt and Syria, not to mention the Holy Land.
The presence of the Coptic Catholic Patriarch will offer the opportunity to experience the developments on the situation in the country of the Nile, where in recent months there have been quite a few episodes directed against Christian churches, their pastors and the faithful.
