Tuesday, 1 October 2013

San José (Agenzia Fides) - Poverty is a phenomenon present in all of Costa Rica, despite the enormous efforts proved fruitless, made in the last 20 years to try to eliminate it. According to a recent report published by the State of the Nation and the National Institute of Statistics, poverty exists in all the 81 cantons of the Country, and is growing at different rates. Throughout Costa Rica there are areas where at least 50% of the population cannot meet basic needs, they have no access to healthcare, education and employment. The poverty rate in the last 20 years has remained constant despite the Country's economic growth and various social programs initiated to try to limit this. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 01/10/2013)
