Santo Domingo (Agenzia Fides) – The National Plan for Literacy "Quisqueya Aprende Contigo" has just begun, launched in the Dominican Republic by the local government as one of the strategies to eradicate poverty. The goal is to teach 700 000 young people from 15 years of age and older how to read and write. The Plan aims to improve social inclusion and the involvement of important sectors of society. Participants will have the opportunity to get a basic education, through educational, flexible programs and tailored to their capabilities, needs, and their conditions and experiences. Professionals and students in their final year of BA across the country will take care of the formation of 25 000 university students,. The objective of the Government is to strengthen the overall development of skills that promote more opportunities, so that literate people, their families and communities, are able to improve the conditions of life and come out of the cycle of poverty in which they live.
