Friday, 14 December 2012

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - The children of the poor families of the parish of St. Mary Magdalene in Hong Kong have anticipated the Christmas season by sharing the joy of the birth of Jesus with the young of the Catholic Youth. According to reports from Kung Kao Po, the weekly newsletter of the Diocese of Hong Kong, this charitable Christmas work of the Catholic Youth is a way for young people to make experience of the encounter with Jesus and strengthen faith. With the collaboration of the Sisters of Charity, on December 12 young people prepared a Christmas party for poor children in the neighborhood, organizing games and competitions with prizes and distributing Christmas gifts, toys and sweets. According to these young students, "it was mutual aid: the children had the joy of the feast, we experienced the meaning of Advent and of faith."
Catholic Youth, who will celebrate 10 years of life next year, is formed by high school students who received the sacrament of Confirmation, who are busy with charitable works, service to the elderly and the most vulnerable groups of society (the poor families), especially in Advent and Lent, so that young people make experience of the presence of Jesus in their lives and the encounter with Jesus in the poor and needy, to strengthen faith. In addition to charitable work, young people have a retreat every three months, with the worship and celebration of the sacrament of reconciliation. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 14/12/2012)
