VATICAN - Pope’s appeal: "to immediately end the killing in Nigeria"

Thursday, 21 June 2012

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - After the general audience on Wednesday, June 20, Holy Father Benedict XVI launched the following appeal "to an immediate end to the killing of innocents " in Nigeria: "I am following with deep concern the news coming from Nigeria, where terrorist attacks have been particularly aimed against the Christian community. While I pray for the victims and for those who suffer, I appeal to the perpetrators of violence, to immediately end the bloodshed of innocents. It is my hope that the various components of Nigerian society will collaborate so as not to start down the path of revenge, and that all citizens will cooperate in building a peaceful and reconciled society, in which everyone’s right freely to profess their faith is fully protected."
