ASIA/MYANMAR - The young and the Word of God: the future of the mission in Myanmar

Thursday, 29 March 2012

Loikaw (Agenzia Fides) - The Word of God "gift that gives courage and hope for the lives of young people; as a "point of reference for an authentically Christian life"; as a "valuable tool" in the hands of young people who become evangelists, in a country that is changing: is what is being proposed these days for young Burmese Christians, gathered in large numbers in Lokaw to attend the Sixth National Congress of young Burmese Catholics, entitled: "Come together, share the Word, live the Eucharist".
The meeting, which began on March 26 and ends on April 1, "is lived in an atmosphere that can be experienced during World Youth Day, in which young Burmese Catholics wish to participate, thinking about the next event of World Youth Day 2013 in Brazil," notes to Fides a priest from Loikaw.
The Congress is an important moment for the young Burmese, who lives his/her faith in a social, political and cultural transitional phase for the country. This is why the Burmese Church pays great attention to the gathering, which is attended by numerous Bishops and the visit of the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Giovanni D'Aniello. One of the brainstorming sessions is devoted to "The paths of the Word: The Mission" and intends to focus on the role of young people to become missionaries in their lives, in the context in which they live in society. The assembly also reflects on the relationship between the Eucharist and the young and the importance of cultivating a deeper spiritual life.
The assembly is attended by a delegation of Catholic youth who took part in past days, in the first continental meeting of the International Forum of Catholic Action, held in Bangkok, dedicated to the role of the laity and youth in the Church of Asia, which brought together young people from Thailand, India, Philippines, China, Laos, Myanmar.
