Tuesday, 21 September 2004

Fulda (Fides Service) - From 20 to 23 September the Catholic Bishops of
Germany are meeting in Fulda for the Autumn Plenary Assembly of the
Bishops’ Conference DBK. One of items on the agenda is an ample
reflection on universal mission activity. The theme will be dealt with
from various angles: publication of a document with the title “His
Salvation for all peoples. The mission of the Universal Church” part of
a series entitled “The German Bishops”; a Seminar (22 September) on the
need to consider and promote fundamental concepts on the universal
mission; publication of a pastoral letter “The Church’s missionary
duty”, on the occasion of the 1,250th anniversary of the death of
English born missionary Bishop St Boniface, to increase awareness from
a new point of view of this duty among Catholics and non Catholics. In
his opening address which bore the title Conversion to Life for All
the President of the German Bishops’ Conference, Cardinal Karl Lehmann,
illustrated the origin and significance of Christians’ fundamental
mission dimension in various forms of service for mission. During their
assembly the Bishops will also discuss the Catholic Church’s 20th World
Youth Day scheduled to take place in August 2005 in Cologne (Germany).
