EUROPE/ITALY - "Archives and Evangelization", a conference on the importance of the documentation concerning evangelization

Monday, 12 September 2011

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - From September 13 to 16, the Conference "Archives and Evangelization," which aims to promote the enhancement of church records kept in the archives on evangelization will be held at "Il Carmelo" Institute (Sassone-Rome). As written in the presentation, "the documentary heritage can contribute to the awareness of the ecclesial mission of Christian communities in the third millennium. The church archives do not have, in fact, a secondary role in the culture and behaviour of Catholics. "The Conference is sponsored by Ecclesiastical Archives Association, whose statute was approved in 1956, and art. 2 states: "The purpose of the Association is to contribute, inspired by the directives of the Holy See, to ensure the preservation and study of the Archives of interest to the history of the Church, and to promote every means that serves to make the most fruitful scientific and technical activities of members in relation to the Archives".
Scrolling through the intense program of the Conference, the reports will present the major scenarios of evangelization in the last centuries, while the roundtables are designed to provide information about the memory of the places and the archival documentary series where to find the information of what "happened". The "archival paths " means therefore to urge archivists to take care and order documents for the commitment to evangelization with diligence, both in dioceses and parishes, as in the bodies of consecrated life as a whole and in their peripheral groups.
The Inaugural lecture of the Conference on the theme "Testimonies of Christian evangelization," will be held by Prof. P. Fidel González Fernández (PUU). In the following days reports on 'continuous' " Evangelization in the Christian populations of Europe in modern and contemporary age" will be presented (Professor P. Filippo Lovison, B, Pontifical Gregorian University); "Evangelization ad gentes in Modern and contemporary age" ( Prof. P. Alberto Trevisiol, IMC, Pontifical Urbaniana University), "Post-Vatican II Evangelization in the Italian context " (Prof. D. Ciro Sarnataro, Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy). Among the speakers of the roundtable there is also Mgr. Luis Manuel Cuña Ramos, director of the Historical Archives of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, which the Congress participants will visit on Sept. 16.
