AMERICA/ARGENTINA - In the Year of Life, the collection "Más por Menos" dedicated to the defense and promotion of life

Friday, 9 September 2011

Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - On Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 September, in all the communities in the country the 42nd national Collection "Más por Menos", promoted by the episcopate of Argentina will take place. In tune with the Year of Life, that the local Church is celebrating in 2011 (see Fides 09/11/2010), the Collection will have the theme "With your help choose life" (Con tu ayuda elegís la vida).
"Faced with the 'culture of death' that surrounds and overwhelms us, we want to announce to all men a message of respect, appreciation and defense of life in all its phases", writes in this circumstance His Excellency Mgr. Adolfo A. Uriona, Bishop of Añatuya in his message, remembering that life is not a right but a gift of God the Creator. "We want to defend life by recognizing its dignity - explains the Bishop -. Therefore, the Collection is not intended merely as an aid relief, but, through the various projects submitted by the diocese, it wants to work for the promotion, development and dignity of our people through the pastoral action that the Catholic Church carries on in its various communities".
The Collection is organized by the Episcopal Commission for aid to the regions of greatest need, and is carried out across the nation each year, during the Mass celebrated on the second Sunday of September, including Saturday evening. Through the Collection initiatives are promoted in favor of the marginalized population that lives in the poorest regions of Argentina, this is why it is considered as "a bridge of communication between those who have more ("más ") and those who have little or nothing ("menos"). "
"Sharing our goods with those with the greatest need is a choice in favor of life", writes the Bishop of Goya, Mgr.Ricado Faifer. "The Collection 'Más por Menos' is a pulse of life, a breath of hope, which makes possible the realization of projects regarding human and pastoral development that relieve the life of the poor". Even the Holy Father Benedict XVI has sent, through the Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, his support for the initiative, inviting the faithful to be generous and recalling that "as the Lord teaches us in the Gospel, the smallest offer has value before God".
