Cochabamba (Agenzia Fides) - The Catholic Church intends to contribute to the reform of public education, established by the law called Avelino Sinani, in a note sent to Fides, Archbishop Mgr. Tito Solari, Archbishop of Cochabamba and head of the Committee for the education of CEB confirms that the Church has long been waiting for the signature of an agreement with the State provided by the law on public education.
"As a Church we want to serve the community, we know that this service is more effective especially for the poorest families, when a person has a real formation one is able to escape from poverty because you have the tools to succeed in life", says the Bishop .
The new law is still awaiting regulation, this process takes time, especially in understanding what kind of education reform has to be achieved in the country. (See Fides 21/12/2010)
The Bishop also praises the government’s initiative to support technical education and technology, which was not present in the past, and also remembers that the Church has the tools and experience in this field especially in popular schools, such as Don Bosco, Fe y Alegría.
Regarding the reform of "teacher training schools" (so-called "normales"), Mgr. Solari said: "we know we are in the second year of this change and programs are lacking, there is a lack of educational projects. Only through change and appropriate training for teachers, one will have a new education in the future", he concluded. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 07/29/2011)
