ASIA/CHINA- Conclusion of the general chapter of the Missionary Sisters of the Souls in Purgatory

Xing Tai (Fides Service) - "We have renewed the spirit of the congregation, consolidated our charisma, strengthened our relationship with the Lord": are the results of the general chapter of the religious congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Souls in Purgatory, the Catholic community of Xing Tai in the He Bei province, which ended on July 16. According to what is reported to Fides by Faith in He Bei, 35 nuns with perpetual vows and 3 with temporary vows attended the Chapter after nearly a year of spiritual and psychological preparation, in sharing, in prayer and discernment. During a week of meeting, 16 nuns presented 11 reports on many topics related to the mission of evangelization, pastoral care, social service and community life of the congregation. During the chapter the new leadership of the congregation was renewed and the mother general was confirmed. Sister Teresa Lai, of the Society of the Helpers (founded in France in 1856 and arrived in China in 1869)of the community of Tai Pei, was invited to accompany the spiritual journey of the chapter.
The Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Souls in Purgatory of the Catholic community in Xing Tai was established in 1990 with this charisma "in communion with the whole Church, giving glory to God, giving oneself completely so Jesus Christ can purify all souls and carry out the Work of Salvation". Today the community has 51 nuns (39 with perpetual vows and 12 with temporary vows) active in the pastoral, ecclesial, spiritual, educational field and social service (for the elderly).
