VATICAN-The Pope's solidarity for the victims of famine in the Horn of Africa

Vatican City (Fides Service) - A statement of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum informs that the Holy Father Benedict XVI has sent an initial sum of € 50,000 to His Exc. Mgr. Giorgio Bertin, Apostolic Administrator of Mogadishu, who is directly involved in helping those affected by famine caused by drought in the Horn of Africa. Approximately 10 million people are involved, hundreds of thousands of refugees risk dying in the absence of basic necessities. Somalia and northern Kenya are the most affected areas. (S.L.)
