Saturday, 18 June 2011

Quito (Agenzia Fides) - The anniversary of the Catholic Latin American Organization and Caribbean Communication, CLAOCC was celebrated yesterday, June 17. In fact, June 17, 1987, within the respective continental Assemblies celebrated, the three Catholic organizations of communication in Latin America (OCIC-AL films; UCLAP,press and UNDA-AL, radio), decided to work together around a common plan. This decision was the beginning of a process of unification that was consolidated in the Assemblies of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, in 1998, when the decision to name the new organization as "CLAOCC" was decided and, finally, in the constitutive Assembly of Curitiba, Brazil, in 2001.
The Assembly of Curitiba also defined the commitment and mission of the new organization, aimed at promoting processes of "training of communicators faithful to their commitment of faith in building a mutual cooperation and solidarity in Latin America and the Caribbean", so to maintain "permanent observation of reality in the field of communication in Latin America and the Caribbean."
Afterwards CLAOCC embarked in developing "policies in the field of communication to meet the challenges" and "facilitate the planning of the work in the field of communication" and, in particular, the coordination of entertainment activities and service to branch offices. During the subsequent meetings in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 2004, in Loja, Ecuador, in 2007, in Porto Alegre, Brazil in 2010, CLAOCC reiterated its commitment and its mission to "contribute to building a world with more solidarity and justice "through initiatives, activities and projects" enlightened by faith in Christ and in communion with the Church".(EC) (Agenzia Fides 18/06/2011)
