EUROPE/ITALY-At Pentecost "mandate" to young people participating in the WYD in Madrid

Friday, 10 June 2011

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - On Saturday 11 and Sunday, June 12, on the occasion of the Pentecost solemnity, in many dioceses Italian Bishops will give the "mandate" to the Italian youth who will participate in the World Youth Day (WYD) in Madrid: about 80,000 have enrolled so far. As a statement from the Italian Episcopal Conference (IEC)recalls, the gesture intends to remind us that "the World Youth Day is above all a pilgrimage, an event of faith and brotherhood", which also has a missionary value. During the Spanish days, especially during the Eucharistic celebrations and the Way of the Cross, there will be many occasions where one will pray for the whole world, for peace, for the important matters of humanity. Prayer and the meeting between young people of different nations and continents, will generate concrete actions of solidarity and witness. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 10/06/2011)
