Juba (Agenzia Fides) - "The people of Abyei are still missing in the cease-fire area and in need of assistance. The humanitarian crisis continues", says Mgr. Roko Taban Mousa, Apostolic Administrator of Malakal in southern Sudan to Fides, and Abyei is under the jurisdiction of this territory, the area is disputed between north and south Sudan, occupied by the troops of Khartoum since 21 May. The inhabitants have fled from the area causing a serious humanitarian emergency. "There are people of good will from different cities of southern Sudan who send aid. These contributions, however, are not sufficient to meet the needs of all, at the most this aid is enough for 3-4 days and then we are back to the dramatic situation", said Mgr Mousa who is very worried. According to official estimates there are 46,000 displaced people, while some aid agencies say they are about 100,000. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 09/06/2011)
