Bangui (Agenzia Fides) – Mgr.Eduard Mathos, Bishop of Bambari, Central African Republic, has returned to his Episcopate under military escort. This is what local Church sources told Fides that for security reasons do not wish to be mentioned. Mgr. Mathos had taken refuge in the village of Ngerengou, after being the victim of an ambush by a guerrilla group that had kidnapped him (see Fides 06/04/2011).
The sources of Fides add other details regarding the kidnapping of the Bishop, on June 2. "Mgr. Mathos was traveling in his car driven by his driver. A vehicle of the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS)was following him, the humanitarian organization sponsored by the Jesuits. The guerrillas blocked both cars. After a few hours they went away, releasing Mgr. Mathos but taking the two cars and the two drivers. After, the driver of the JRS was able to escape. Mgr.Mathos`s driver is still in the hands of the kidnappers " concludes our sources. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 06/06/2011)
