Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - On the occasion of the presentation of the annual collection of Caritas, which will be held on 11 and 12 June across the country with the theme "pobreza cero, compromiso de todos" (zero poverty, a commitment for everyone) President of Caritas Argentina, Bishop of Merlo-Moreno, His. Exc. Mgr, Fernando Bargalló, said "millions of Argentines still live in extreme poverty" and stressed that social and government plans are commendable. "There are not few palliatives, the gestures of solidarity, social programs, however, one must not be content. You have to think that millions of our brothers continue to be socially excluded and to live in a state of extreme poverty, and above all feel unwelcomed, "underlined Mgr.Bargalló. "The Church appreciates the Government's programs in favor of the people but poverty remains high, despite solidarity and aid. "
The Bishop also explained that the aim of the 2011 campaign of the charitable organization of the Church is "to appeal to the generosity of the people with the work of Caritas, " but also "to overcome the mentality which we must resign ourselves to this state of poverty or say that you cannot do anything to overcome it. " "We must overcome indifference and resignation, and engage everyone. " The donations raised through the annual collection are destined to support the solidarity actions and integral human promotion of individuals and of the country's poorest communities. Caritas also carries out programs to promote family life, education, work, health, housing, environment and citizen participation. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 04/06/2011)
