Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - "The commitment to proclaim Jesus Christ, 'the Way, the Truth and the Life', is the main task of the Church. We invoke the Virgin Mary to always help the Pastors and those in the various ministries who announce the good News of salvation, so that the Word of God will spread and the number of disciples will multiply. " With these words the Holy Father Benedict XVI urged the faithful in St. Peter's Square on Sunday, May 22 to join in prayer and to recite the Regina Caeli.
Commenting the Gospel of the Fifth Sunday of Easter, the Holy Father explained that "he proposes a twofold commandment of faith: believe in God and believe in Jesus ... They are not two separate acts, but a single act of faith, the full adhesion to salvation from God the Father through His only Begotten Son. The New Testament puts an end to invisibility of the Father ... Faith in Jesus means following him every day, in simple actions that make up our day. "
After the Marian prayer, Benedict XVI expressed his joy for the beatification of Mother Maria Clara of the Child Jesus, in Lisbon, and for that of Sister Dulce Lopes Pontes, and Salvador Bahia, in Brazil. Speaking to the English speaking visitors he recalled the International Ecumenical Peace Convocation organized by the World Council of Churches, which is meeting in Kingston, Jamaica, the Convocation is the culmination of a decade-long program aimed at combating all forms of violence: "Let us join in prayer for this noble intention - said Benedict XVI - and recommit ourselves to eliminating violence in families, in society and the international community.
