Friday, 23 July 2004

Hong Kong (Fides Service) - Hong Kong Book Fair 2004, opened on July 21, is giving special attention to Catholic publications. The sector on Catholicism includes two series of books presented by the Council for the Laity of Hong Kong diocese; other entities presenting publications are the diocesan bulletin Chinese version Kong Ko Bao, Caritas, the Catholic Centre, the Catholic Truth Society, Catholic Audio-visual Centre, Hong Kong Catholic Social Communications Office, St Paul’s Bookshop.
Since the Fair comes at holiday time, in selecting the books for presentation the Council for the Laity focussed on spirituality, meditation but also games for children to help them grow in the faith. A theme adopted also by Caritas, with its programme “formation for little readers”.
One especially successful initiative is a proposed list of “Ten Good Books” suggested by local Catholic personalities, ecclesiastical and lay persons. These books are among the most sold in all categories.
