Islamabad (Agenzia Fides) - The Talibans have done serious damage on the minds of children and young people. Their propaganda through songs, media, family visits, education, direct training, have attracted children and young people who today need real "rehabilitation programs" for this, sources in the civil society in Pakistan refer to Fides, in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly "Northwest Frontier") rehabilitation programs to "de-radicalize" young adolescents and manipulated by the Talibans have started. Many of them dreamed of becoming a "kamikaze", after having followed a training of six months in Taliban recruitment centers, especially in the valley of Swat.
The first programs of "reeducation" were launched last year, but today the activity is intensifying, as the civil authorities believe that these programs have a key role in combating extremism and terrorism. The young kamikazes have been used repeatedly by the Talibans in suicide attacks, most recently, across the country. The military have found in the district of Swat and in the other districts in the area of Malakand in (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), hundreds of young people indoctrinated by the organization "Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan”, responsible for the recent attack against the military academy in Peshawar, organized to avenge Bin Laden. The rehabilitation programs, to divert young people from the radical ideas, take about six months and the patient work of sociologists, psychologists, moderate religious leaders, practitioners of civil society groups (PA) (Agenzia Fides 05/16/2011)
