AMERICA/ARGENTINA -"United to promote the integral development and to eliminate poverty": concluded the First Congress on the social doctrine of the church

Rosario (Agenzia Fides) - The President of the Episcopal Commission for the Social Pastoral, Archbishop Jorge Casaretto, Bishop of the Diocese of San Isidro, said that the Church of Argentina recognizes "all the progress that has been made" on social issues in the country and highlights the measure concerning the allocation of a monetary contribution to mothers during pregnancy “very positive”.
As part of the First National Congress of the Social Doctrine of the Church, which took place in Rosario on days 6, 7 and 8 May, Mgr.Casaretto said that while the Church recognizes the progress made in the field of social doctrine, however, believes that "Poverty remains a major challenge in Argentina." The Bishop explained that when the Church affirms this reality he does not intend to speak against anyone, but believes that poverty still remains a serious problem. " Mgr.Casaretto also stressed that "there was a response through many social plans" and that the Church "considers " the contribution to the unborn and to women during pregnancy very important.
The Bishop also raised "the need to give priority to dialogue as the main instrument for the construction of democracy" and asked to have "an attitude of constant dialogue that will lead to overcome a climate of constant controversy and clashes that complicate our fragmentation ".
The Congress was convened by the Episcopal Conference of Argentina in 2009, and had the title "United to promote the integral development and to eliminate poverty '.
