Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) –With the welcome greeting of Archbishop Piergiuseppe Vacchelli, Assistant Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and President of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), Monday, May 9 the work of the Annual General Meeting of Pontifical Mission Societies will begin. The national Directors of PMS will meet from all continents,together with the President and the General Secretaries of the four PMS in the Salesian Retreat House, in Via della Pisana, in Rome, which houses the works.
The first part of the Assembly, Monday 9 and Tuesday, May 10, will be constituted by the pastoral Session, and will take into consideration issues and proposals to ensure the necessary financial resources to the work of evangelization, through reports, workshops and debate.
Wednesday, May 11 the administrative Session of the Assembly will begin, initiated by the report of Archbishop Piergiuseppe Vacchelli and the obligations expected by the Statute (including the presentation of the new national Directors, the election of moderators and reporters, the reading of the Minutes of the Assembly of 2010). The reports of the general Secretaries of the four Pontifical Mission Societies will follow, who will present the report of the past year, an estimate of 2011 budget and grant requests for projects that have been received. On the morning of Wednesday, May 11 the general Secretary of the Society for the Propagation of Faith, Fr. Timothy Lehane, SVD will speak, and in the afternoon it will be the turn of Mgr.Jan Dumon, general Secretary of the Pontifical Society of St. Peter the Apostle. Also in the afternoon of 11 May the speech on behalf of Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples is scheduled. Thursday, May 12, Dr. J. Baptistine Ralamboarison and Fr. Vito Del Prete, PIME, general Secretaries of the Pontifical Society of Missionary Childhood and the Pontifical Missionary Union, will present their speeches. The final report will be of Mgr.Silvano Rossi, Commissioner of the Administration.
Friday, May 13 in the morning the meeting of national Directors on a continental level will take place, the afternoon will be devoted to an examination of the meetings decisions , to the proposals of permanent formation and other final fulfillments. A space will be reserved to the presentation of the portal of the PMS and the activity of Fides Agency. The final speech of the President of PMS, Mgr.Vacchelli, will close the Assembly of 2011.
