ASIA/CHINA-The Catholic communities opened the month of Mary with great devotion and missionary zeal

Beijing (Agenzia Fides) - The solemn Marian pilgrimage, the Eucharistic celebration and the procession have marked the opening of the Marian month of May, the month of Mary, in the Chinese Catholic continental communities , which simultaneously celebrated the beatification of the beloved Pope John Paul II in communion with the universal Church. According to information received by Fides, with great devotion and missionary zeal, the ecclesial base communities from Beijing to Shang Hai, from Shaan Xi to Si Chuan have organized a number of initiatives.
More than 5,000 faithful gathered in the Shrine of the Cross of the Diocese of Zhou Zhi in the province of Shaan Xi, to celebrate the opening Eucharist of the Marian month, followed by the solemn procession with the Cross to the church dedicated to Our Lady which, thanks to the commitment of 1,300 faithful, was restored in March. Here the ceremony of raising the Cross was held. Among the faithful there was a group of pilgrims from the Diocese of Wan Zhou in Chong Qing, who were enthusiastic and confirmed the commitment to "strengthen the faith and give witness in the month of Mary. "
In the Diocese of Nan Chong of the province of Si Chuan, there was a solemn procession of Marian Mount Shan Xi, where there is an ancient Benedictine monastery. According to the celebrant priest, "the month of Mary invites us to turn to our Heavenly Mother and on her example of virtue, to follow Christ.” More than 600 faithful attended the solemn Eucharist concelebrated by six priests in the monastery.
