AMERICA/ARGENTINA-The workers of the Catholic Action call for "a fair distribution of wealth"

Monday, 2 May 2011

Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - The workers of the Argentina Catholic Action (SETRAC) published a statement which calls for "a fair distribution of wealth”, as the title of the message says released on 1 May, the feast of St. Joseph the Worker and Labor Day. In the statement, a copy was sent to Fides, the complaint is that often, "when it comes to revenue generated by economic activity, workers receive the smallest part, especially those working in the informal sector because they are not protected by collective agreements and social security”. Even worse is the situation of workers that the market considers "unnecessary and to be eliminated”. On the other hand, the statement continues, "every time you evade taxes or follow illegal transactions, actions are set up that generate inequality”.
The SETRAC also points out the relevance of the contribution to this issue led by Pope John Paul II in his encyclical on work Laborem Exercens, where he appeals to the dignity of workers, for the subordination of the economy for personal development, and non-negotiable respect for everyone, the image of God, in any given socio-political scenario.
The statement also says: "Our commitment to the evangelization of the workers means to live and share with them the reality of every day, carrying the message of the Gospel. We are committed to this cause, to be faithful to Jesus, so that we can build as brothers, a homeland for everyone”. Finally SETRAC members express their willingness to welcome "all those who are organizing to make sure that thousands of projects in the field of work will be set up in order to give dignity to the worker”.
