Thursday, 14 April 2011

La Paz (Agenzia Fides) - The Episcopal Conference of Bolivia (CEB) presented the pastoral letter: "Catholics in Bolivia today, a presence of hope and commitment." The press conference was chaired by Archbishop Oscar Aparicio, Auxiliary Bishop of La Paz, General Secretary of the CEB, in the presence of Bishop Eugene Scarpellini, Secretary of the CEB, and P. José Fuentes, Secretary for Pastoral Care.
The pastoral letter is addressed to the members of the People of God, priests and the faithful, but also to all men and women of good will and to society in general. Its main purpose is to bring "hope and encourage everyone's commitment to transform the present reality of our country which is still marked by the ambiguity of social processes, by the trivialization of human values and the underestimation of the religious and transcendent dimension of life, creating divisions, confusion and frustration among people and nations. "
The text covers all aspects of social, economic, cultural, political and religious life, "not to express preferences for institutional or technical solutions, but to assess their religious, ethical and moral implications" according to the mission of the Church. "We want to make a contribution – write the bishops – in the life of society starting from the Christian vision of man, concerned for the welfare of all Bolivians."
Bishop Aparicio concluded the presentation of the document underlining the desire and the importance of the Permanent Mission of the Bishops: "Bishops wish that these guidelines are accepted, reviewed and implemented, in particular by the lay , as guidelines and valid help for its commitment and for Christian maturity. The Permanent Mission invites all Latin American Christians to respond in a personal and conscious manner to the Lord Jesus. With this aim, in order to facilitate the work of different groups and communities of faith, a more accessible version of the document will be given out. " (CE) (Agenzia Fides 04/14/2011)
