Madrid (Agenzia Fides) – To this point the conflict in Côte d'Ivoire has caused irreparable damage both to the economy and to the Country and the people, as well as causing hundreds of deaths and more than a million refugees. According to media reports, the Spanish citizens who ask for it are being sent home, while many, despite the violent climate, remain in the country. Among these are the missionaries. “We have never considered leaving Côte d'Ivoire,” says a Dominican sister of the Annunciation, in a statement released by Catholic NGO, Manos Unidas. All of the various religious orders in the African country continue with their work. There are no attacks or threats, but some are afraid. They welcome many refugees into their houses. Manos Unidas is long-committed to Côte d'Ivoire through missionaries and local partners, with particular attention to education and healthcare, especially in the areas most affected by the conflict and marginalised by the Government, in the North and Northwest of the Country.
