AMERICA/MEXICO - New day care centre for children who live in violent neighbourhoods

Saturday, 9 April 2011

León (Agenzia Fides) – As part of “Progect 180°”, directed towards the rehabilitation of neighbourhoods afflicted with the problem of youth gangs, the Salesian Don Bosco Oratory, in collaboration with the Municipality of León, Guanajuato, and the PULSE group, have launched a pilot project for a “day center for boys and girls”, reports the ANS agency. Born from the idea of 'extended hours', the Centre aims to accommodate boys and girls who attend school for half a day, but then can not be cared for by parents who work full-time. They are trying to create a relaxing and educational environment where children can do homework and recreational activities, therefore in an environment completely diverse to that typical of the neighbourhoods in which they live, surrounded by drug problems and violence.
Management is entrusted to the Salesian Oratorians, who make their contribution with creative workshops, theater, physical education and help with homework (AP) (9/4/2011 Agenzia Fides)
